Non-Resident Enrollment

Frequently Asked Questions

We are excited to enroll non-resident students for the 2024-2025 school year through our open enrollment policy. There are numerous perks to open enrollment and choice in educational opportunities for families.

Is my child eligible for non-resident enrollment at Newport Independent?

To be eligible for open enrollment, interested families must first apply through Student Services at the Welcome Center or via Non- Resident Application. We base our decisions to proceed with enrollment based on the capacity of our classrooms, schools, and special programs.

We are excited to offer options for enrollment with out-of-district students at no tuition charge to families.  To see if you are eligible please contact Student Services at 859-292-3001, email Jennifer.Stewart@newport.kyschools.us, via online application, or by visiting our Welcome Center Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

I have a child with special needs.  Would they be eligible?

We value our students and believe in providing a free and appropriate education to all students.  Please complete the online application and a team will review our current capacity in classrooms, the school, and programs. Our decisions do not discriminate based on disability status.

I live out of the district and need transportation.  How do I set that up?

Transportation will not be provided outside of the district boundaries (outside of Newport).

My child plays sports.  How do I get transferred so that they can play?

High school athletes must meet KHSAA requirements regarding transfers to play and this is not a school decision.  Our Athletic Director may be able to assist you in understanding those specific requirements and is available at Newport High School daily.  You may also contact Student Services at 859-292-3001.
