21st Century Community Learning Center is proudly serving students at, Newport Primary, Newport Intermediate, and Newport High School.
The 21st Century Community Learning Centers of Newport Independent Schools along with their grant partners, Learning Grove, Campbell County Extension Office of U of K, and Brighton Center, seeks to offer before, after and summer school programming that focuses on providing non proficient students with extra academic support and engaging enrichment opportunities by partnering with community organizations, volunteers, and other members of the Newport schools’ staff. Individuals seeking to provide input on future programming or partner with 21st CCLC may contact the District Director for dates of future advisory council meetings where input from the community and stakeholders will be sought.
What is the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC)?
This federally funded program supports a learning center that provides Newport Independent Schools’ students with academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours. It also offers students enrichment activities through exposure to diverse recreational, social, and cultural activities. In addition, the CLC will provide fun, family-focused activities to help promote parental engagement in and outside the home.
The 21st Century program will strive to help students develop the skills they need to succeed in life while also preparing them for college and future careers.
What does programming look like?
After school clubs begin no later than three weeks after the first day of the school year and end no later than 2 weeks before the end of the school year; typically, September- May. Programs will operate Monday through Thursday, 2:45-5:45 pm at NHS and 3:00PM to 5:00PM at both NPS and NIS. Programs run on a weekly basis and begin with a healthy snack followed by focused academic support, WIN (What I Need) time, and then enrichment activities.
How do I sign my child up?
All students must fill out a CLC registration form to be registered for after school clubs. Once the form is received by 21st CCLC staff, the student and family will then be contacted to discuss schedule and child’s interest. From there, students will either be added to programming or put on a waiting list to join at a later date. SPOTS ARE LIMITED.
Is there a morning program?
Yes, NPS and NIS Wildcat Morning Program begin the first full week of school and run until the last day or school. Hours of operation are 6:50AM-7:50AM, Monday through Friday. Students will participate in physical fitness and academic support with a certified teacher. NIS students will enter through the school gymnasium and NPS students will enter through the front doors of the Primary. Students will enjoy a healthy breakfast before school from 7:30AM-7:55AM.
Who leads programming?
Academic support sessions are led by certified Newport Independent Schools’ personnel. This allows students the opportunity to get to know their school-day staff on a deeper, more personal level during out of school hours.
Enrichments are led by a mixture of community partners, school staff, and volunteers. Anyone working with our students are subject to a background check.
